Beards can get dirty – and not in a good way! They have a knack for absorbing dirt, grease, crumbs, and tobacco, which can make your beard dull, brittle, and even a tad smelly. Throw in some dead skin cells and you’ll be turning heads for all the wrong reasons. This is why you need a daily or weekly beard wash to banish those pollutants and restore the natural balance of your beard.
If you’ve been washing your beard with a regular shampoo or soap, stop now. Regular shampoos suck all the natural moisture from your follicles, leading to dry and itchy skin – not to mention knots and brittle strands. But our high-quality Black Comb Beard Rinse wipes the slate clean without messing with your pH. It leaves you with healthy face fur that is ready to soak up your beard oil or balm. And that’s when the real magic happens!
This is the fuel that powers the engine! Our Baseline oil blend has no added fragrance, which means it's as gentle as can be on your skin. But even if you don’t have a sensitivity, a scent-free blend allows you splash on your favorite cologne, or embrace your own natural manly scent. Either way, our baseline formula keeps things neutral and fragrance free.
If you like your scents clean and sharp, you’ll love the zesty exuberance of Grove Street. Fresh citrus notes are balanced with the sweetness of fresh basil. You’ll feel like you’re in a Mediterranean village, strolling through white-washed streets crammed with flowering citrus and wild-growing basil. A sure-fire way to invigorate your senses and put a pep in you step.
You may not be the outdoorsy type, but that doesn’t mean you can’t smell like a woodland warrior. Northwest captures the aroma of freshly chopped wood straight from the woodshop, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself dusting wood chips from your shoulder! Assertive but never overpowering, this soothing cedar scent will linger on your beard for the whole day.
Nothing oozes authority like The District. This masculine crisp cologne scent is rich and full-bodied, with mahogany top notes balanced by base notes of lemongrass. The perfect blend for a beardsman who likes to wrangle the bulls in the boardroom, but still exude charm at the watercooler.
What Does Beard Shampoo Do?
A high-quality beard rinse removes dirt, grit, and dead skin cells that can irritate your beard and inhibit growth. Unlike a regular shampoo, a beard rinse is gentle and won’t strip your beard of beneficial oils.
A beard rinse is also handy when you want to remove styling wax. Wax isn’t water soluble, so no amount of scrubbing will remove it (without removing precious strands in the process!). Soapy water might work, but the soap will dry out your beard.
Instead, use a beard wash that’s formulated to remove the wax without harming your hair shaft or skin.
Why Use Beard Shampoo?
It’s not enough to just oil your beard. Without a proper cleanse, you’re leaving dirt and dust in your beard. This makes your beard gritty. And it may even damage the strands, making your fuzz look thin and ragged.
Every beard or mustache needs a regular wash to keep it healthy, soft, and shiny. This should be your first line of defence before applying an oil, cream, or balm.
How to Use Beard Shampoo
Wet your beard and squeeze out a small amount of Beard Rinse. Massage through your beard, working from the roots to the ends. Rinse thoroughly with water. If you’re removing styling wax, leave the beard rinse for a minute or so to loosen the wax.
Even though beard rinses are gentle, you can still lose some oils. That’s why it’s important to use a beard conditioner as well. After you’ve done this, dry your beard well and apply an oil, cream, or balm. But don’t wait too long. Moisturizers are best absorbed while your pores are still open.
How often you wash your beard can depend on a variety of factors, like skin type, environment, and beard length. If you have oily skin or you’ve got a dirty job, you’ll need to wash every day. If you’ve got a long beard or you live in a cold climate, you’ll only need to wash once or twice a week.
For the average man with normal skin and a short to medium beard, we recommend once or twice a week. This should be enough to clean and not alter the pH too much. But if you’re just not sure, start with one a week and let your beard be your guide.
